Shayn and Carly find themselves in an intense stand-off with Tim and Mat on House Rules

Monday’s episode of House Rules saw the remaining teams tasked with overhauling Lisa and Andy’s backyard, which led to some serious tension.

The backyard was divided into three areas, and this time it was up to the teams to choose the zone they wanted, with both Shayn and Carly, and Mat and Tim all vying for the outdoor lounge area.

After an awkward confrontation, Tim offered a potential solution to the dilemma, but Carly, 31, still wasn’t happy, branding it ‘a d**k move’.

‘If Tim and Mat want to do the outdoor lounge and then we want the outdoor lounge…’ began Carly before trailing off.

Finished Shayn, 33: ‘Well then, we’ll just have to get the outdoor lounge… We’ll just have to negotiate and say, “We’ve got it.”‘

But with neither team willing to back down, Carly noted they were all ‘stuck in between a rock and a hard place.’

Shayn said he was prepared ‘to have a stand-off’ with the brothers, while Carly insisted, ‘I’m not backing down.’

‘It doesn’t seem to be going far, because they’re just digging their heels in, and we just want to get this sorted out,’ commented Tim, 32.

Finally, Tim came up with a solution, suggesting that if they gave Shayn and Carly the outdoor lounge this time, they’d have to be willing to trade areas next time.

‘I love that you say you’re going to give us it when it’s not your zone. That’s a bit of a d**k move,’ remarked Carly.

With tension between the teams rising, Courtney, 31, whispered to Pete, 32, ‘It’s on!’

‘You guys have not come up with one solution yet!’ fired back Tim, as a bemused Pete and Courtney watched on.

Eventually, Shayn and Carly accepted Tim and Mat’s offer, with the brothers then taking over the entertainment area instead.

But Tim and Mat, 27, had the opportunity to exact revenge after winning the golden shovel challenge.

The brothers were told Lisa and Andy’s den needed to be redone, and they could either undertake the task themselves or offload it to one of the other teams.

If the judges liked what they’d done with the space, they stood to gain three extra points, otherwise they’d lose three points.

‘It’s probably a bit too much work for us. We’ve got a lot to do in two days. It makes my brain explode,’ admitted Mat.

‘The amount of work we’ve actually got to do in the one we’ve got now! We’ve got so much to do outside,’ added Shayn, hinting he didn’t want the den either.

Tim said it ‘wasn’t about playing favourites’, but he was offering the room to Pete and Courtney, and if they didn’t want it, it would then go to Shayn and Carly.

‘If they don’t want it, I guess, bad luck,’ he said, leaving Shayn and Carly feeling both overwhelmed and annoyed.

Luckily for Shayn and Carly though, Pete and Courtney decided they did want a shot at fixing up the den, leaving the Queensland couple visibly relieved.
