Aptly released during Pride month, Taylor’s new song comes on the heels of her endorsement of the pro-LGBTQ Equality Act.

The bill, which would add LGBTQ protections to the Civil Rights Act, has passed in the House Of Representatives and is headed to the Senate.

Taylor released an open letter at the start of June urging Lamar Alexander, a GOP Senator from her state of residence Tennessee, to vote in favor of the bill.

One of Taylor’s lyrics cheekily referred to the organization: ”Why are you mad when you could be GLAAD?’

She herself gave a ‘very generous’ sum to GLAAD before You Need To Calm Down was released, the group revealed.
