Taylor Swift reveals how she got Katy Perry to be the burger to her fries in new music video

Taylor Swift revealed how she got Katy Perry to be in her music video on Tuesday.

After years of feuding, Swift explained that the two pop stars have ‘been on really good terms for a while’ and she jumped at the chance to include Perry in the short film for You Need To Calm Down.

‘I sent her a long synopsis of the entire video and she was like, “I would love for us to be a symbol of redemption and forgiveness!”‘ the 29-year-old told BBC 1 Radio Breakfast Show.

The singers were embroiled in a feud since Taylor claimed the Bon Appetit singer, 34, ‘stole’ three of her backing dancers from her Red tour in 2012.

And following were social media swipes and even dis tracks such as Bad Blood from Swift and Swish Swish fro Perry.

But now all seems water under the bridge.

‘The first time we saw each other was at this party, and it was just very clear to both of us that everything was different. That we had grown up. That we had grown past allowing ourselves to be pitted against each other’, she told BBC.

‘It just was really, really clear that we remembered how much we had in common. Both of us have been in a really good place for a while, but I don’t know if either of us knew if we were gonna talk about it publicly.’

So when Swift was toying with the idea for the You Need To Calm Down music video, she got the bright idea to include her former frenemy.

‘When I thought of this concept for the video and I wrote the treatment, I thought, “I’m just gonna ask her if she’d be interested in this, but I would be totally fine if she’d rather keep it private.”‘

Perry accepted and the two superstars were shown hugging it out in burger and a french fry costume during the video – which was inspired by Perry’s Met gala after-party ensemble.

‘I didn’t think of the burger and fries costume until she wore the burger to the Met Gala after party and I was like, “That is amazing,”‘ Swift began.

‘I kept thinking…we are gonna have this moment in the video…and if it’s us wearing normal clothes and hugging, it won’t really fit…

‘So I was like, “Can we do a a burger and fries as metaphor for two people who belong together? And people who are a perfect pair?” And she thought it was really funny! So we did it.’

Perry was by no means the only big name featuring in the hotly-anticipated video, with the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Laverne Cox, Ru Paul and a number of Queer Eye stars also making cameo appearances.

Other celebrities in the star-studded music video include gay icons Ellen DeGeneres, Billy Porter and Adam Lambert and superstar singer Ciara.

And Swift made a small, but hilarious blunder when she tweeted for fans to follow Ryan Reynolds after he appeared in the video.

But the tweet directed followers to a different Ryan Reynolds… a journalist from Indiana.

‘It happens all the time, honestly,’ Reynolds the writer told Page Six on Monday.

‘Gwen Stefani did it a few months ago and was really sweet about it when it was pointed out to her. Richard Marx, Oprah and plenty of other celebrities have done it, too.’

Swift fixed the mistake and correctly linked the tweet to the Deadpool star’s handle.

You Need To Calm Down is taken from Taylor’s forthcoming seventh studio album, ‘Lover’, due for release on 23rd August 2019.
