Teen Choice 2019: Taylor Swift sends a resilient message to fans while accepting first Icon Award

The 2019 Teen Choice Awards were held on the beaches of Hermosa Beach, California on Sunday.

The awards, which were hosted by Lucy Hale and YouTuber David Dobrik, brought out the hottest acts of TV, movies, music and more.

During the shoreside ceremony Taylor Swift made history as the winner of the first ever Teen Choice Icon Award.

The fun started when BH 902010 creators/stars Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling introduced US Women’s soccer star Alex Morgan, who had the honor of welcoming Icon Award winner Swift to the stage.

Before Taylor’s time in the spotlight, famous friends like Haley Kiyoko, Ed Sheeran, HAIM, Wiz Khalifa, Troye Sivan, and Jameela Jamil sang her praises in a video tribute.

Swift, who has won more Teen Choice Awards than any other artist in history, then sauntered onto the stage to accept the inaugural Icon honor.

‘We have a lot tot talk about,’ Taylor said while clutching onto her custom surfboard award which was emblazoned with her three cats, Meredith, Olivia, and Benjamin.

Swift lauded the efforts of soccer star Morgan and her USWNT teammates, telling audiences: ‘While they were winning the World Cup they were also taking a historic stand in terms of gender equality, gender pay gap.

‘Please, please, please support her and her teammates because this isn’t over yet. It’s not resolved… What happened to them is unfair, it’s happening everywhere and they are heroes and icons for standing up.

She then sent love to her fans telling them: ‘You make so so happy. You make me laugh everyday. I love meeting you, You’re just the most amazing generous people. Thank you for giving my the life I have.’

‘Sometimes you think if you try hard enough to make every decision perfectly, you think you can possibly you can ace life and never make mistakes. But it’s normal to make mistakes,’ she said.

‘If you’re out there and you’re being really hard on yourself right now for something that’s happened, or messing up or feeling embarrassed, it’s normal. That’s what going to happen to you in life. No one gets through unscathed. We’re all going to have a few scratches on us.

‘The album comes out on August 23rd, but I wanted to tell you guys tonight that on the 16th, on Friday, I have a new song called ‘Lover’ that’s coming out and I’m excited.’
