Mischa Barton is set to make a comeback, starring on MTV reality reboot The Hills: New Beginnings.

And as she reflected on the height of her fame in an interview with this week’s Stellar magazine, The O.C. star said it was a ‘dangerous and exiting time’. 

The 33-year-old says that the onslaught of attention that came with her overnight celebrity was ‘bizarre’ and overwhelming.

‘I was definitely at the forefront and I really got the brunt end of the stick,’ the actress told the publication. 

The star went on to say: ‘It was such a level of fame and it was 24/7 in a very aggressive way that you don’t really see anymore’. 

She added: ‘I’m not sure most actresses today experience it in the same way… [People are] more aware of what that kind of thing does to somebody’.

Mischa rose to fame in the early 2000s on The O.C., a hit teen drama about Southern Californian rich kids that inspired a whole genre of reality show rip-offs.

She has also starred in a wide variety of movies including Notting Hill, St. Trinian’s, The Sixth Sense and Homecoming.

Mischa revealed she had never even seen an episode of The Hills before being cast for its remake. 

During an Australian radio interview on The Kyle and Jackie O Show she admitted: ‘I never watched it’. 

However she added that she was familiar with the cast, saying: ‘I’ve known the guys for a long time. I’ve seen them around at parties and events and stuff’. 

The Hills: New Beginnings premieres on Monday, June 24 on MTV, with returning castmembers Heidi Pratt, Audrina Patridge and Whitney Port.
