Comedian Dave Hughes juggles parenthood with a busy schedule of comedy, radio and TV roles.

And on Monday, the father-of-three appeared on Channel 10’s The Project alongside wife Holly Ife to promote their new book ‘How To Annoy Dad’.

The funnyman, 48, appeared momentarily taken aback during the segment when co-host Carrie Bickmore took a subtle swipe at his parenting style.

Dave and wife Holly share three children: six-year-old daughter Tess, eight-year-old daughter Sadie and 10-year-old son Rafferty.

Co-host Waleed Aly asked Dave what annoys him most about his children, and he responded: ‘For me, it is to not take me seriously. They treat me like I’m a joke!’

Holly then laughed and said: ‘That’s 100 per cent true. At no point are they ever scared of you!’

'You got to be around to do that, though!' Carrie appeared to take a swipe at Dave's multiple media jobs as he bemoaned not being taken seriously by his three children

Dave bemoaned ‘I want to be scary dad every now and again’, to which Carrie quipped: ‘You got to be around to do that, though!’

Snapping back instinctively, Dave said ‘I’m around enough!’ as Carrie could be heard saying ‘I’m joking, I’m joking’.

Holly laughed off the comment, and said Dave was often a ‘party Dad’ in their household.

Fellow comedian and friend Peter Helliar chose to intervene, saying: ‘Ever since Hughesy walked into the studio, all you’ve been trying to do Carrie, is get him into trouble with Holly. by the way.’

Pointing to Carrie during the spiel, he added: ‘Even before we went to air.’

Steve Price also later took a dig at Dave by asking Holly: ‘So Holly, he has 23 jobs and is never home. You have gone back to work full time, that must be pretty annoying?’

‘It is pretty annoying, we’ve had some reasonable terse conversations,’ Holly admitted, noting she’s now a teacher.
